Feb. 27, 2022

River has been keeping us very busy. He’s quick on his feet now, and even has a new pair of walking shoes. He loves to ignore his toys and instead explore everything else in the house, from our books to our camera equipment, he loves to pull it all out of the closets and explore.

Along with his newfound sense of discovery, River also loves to talk. Usually, he babbles in a language all his own. However, there are several words he has mastered: Dada, Mama, Pop Pop, Egg, Tea, and Hi. He also loves to throw things in the trash bin for us, eat, snuggle, dance, and read. I think he would read from morning to night if we would comply. When he wakes in the morning, one minute, he will be groggy, rubbing his eyes, yawning, snuggling. Then the next minute, before we can even walk out of his bedroom, he is wide awake, eagerly gesturing toward whatever book is in the room, vocalizing, “Eh! Eh! Eh!” which in baby language must mean, “Read! Read! Read”

He’s also growing. At his last doctor’s appointment a couple weeks ago, we learned he is 23.7 lbs, which lands him in the 59th percentile, a far cry different than the scary 5th percentile he was at, at only three days old. He is also 32.7 inches tall, placing him in the 86th percentile. He’s a tall boy. I guess that’s where all the food he eats goes to. Sometimes, I think he eats more than I do!

Sadly, I’m writing this entry as February vacation comes to an end. We have had so much fun spending this last week hanging out at home with baby River. Bud has mastered several new dishes, including the best french toast I’ve ever tasted, home fries that River can’t get enough of, and the most decadent baked macaroni and cheese.

I am now 19 weeks pregnant with our baby girl, and my regular clothes are starting to feel pretty tight. Otherwise, aside from my never ending hunger, I feel great. We are eagerly awaiting our little Eleanor in July. Until then, we are looking forward to the weather starting to warm up so we can spend more time outside with River, especially now that he can experience it with two feet on the ground!
