Happy birthday, Daddy!

February 2

Celebrating Bud, eating good food, playing the trombone, having some laughs, and trying not to break anything at Nana and Pop Pop’s!

February 3

I am getting River ready for bed while Bud is reading Eleanor a book in the next room. The book is Little Blue Truck Springtime. Bud reads a part of the book I particularly like, where we tap on a chick’s shell saying, “Tap tap, chick. Come on out!” and I say the lines along with him.

River: “Why are you saying that, Mommy?”

Me: “I just like that part.”

River: (stating his most repeated word lately) Why?

Me: “I don’t know why. I just like it.”

River: “I think you like it because the baby in your belly is like the egg in the shell. And you want to see the baby in your belly just like we want the chick to come out of the shell.”

Apparently, three year olds are silly 95% of the time, and extremely wise the other 5%.

Finally, a snow day!

On the Wednesday of February vacation, we participated in a Mattapoisett Land Trust Family Hot Chocolate/ Campfire Hike. We had the youngest kids there, but they were troopers, doing much of the 1.6 miles on their own, slipping and sliding in the snow. I’m not used to being the slowest hiker in the bunch, but River and I made friends with the Sweep, a local high school student, who made sure we didn’t get lost as we were so far behind the rest of the group. When we finished, the kids were rewarded with hot chocolate and a campfire!
