Father’s Day Celebrations
River Learns to Eat
River started eating solid food last month. He was dubious at first, and a little unwieldy, but he’s gotten the hang of it. His favorites include banana, blueberry, and really all fruits. He has also tried many other foods, including chicken, sweet potato, and plain Greek yogurt. He hasn’t refused one yet.
If you have four minutes and the desire to see a baby with various foods smeared all over his face, then I have the compilation video for you.
Feeling Grateful
June 16
Becoming parents has shown us more than anything else how lucky we are to have the family and friends that we do. So many people have brought sunshine into our days by showering River with their gifts of kindness, time, and generosity. From sending a text to check in on us and little Riv, mailing a thoughtful gift, to making time to spend playing with River, it reminds us how wonderful our loved ones are.
And on that note, look how cute River is in the tiny Chucks his Uncle Jon and Auntie Rachel sent him!
Busy Baby
June 15
The past few weeks have just been a whirlwind of accomplishments. One day, River could almost sit up with assistance, the next day, he was pushing himself up and staying that way like he’d been doing it since he was born. He gets around with facility by log rolling and/or throwing his body weight forward on his stomach. He likes to practice the crawling position, while Bud and I watch on with bated breath, cameras in hand, only to flop onto his tummy the next moment. We feel that crawling is just around the corner, though.
River also impressed us this past weekend. Bud and I committed to three social visits in one day, starting with breakfast with Grandma and Grandpa at 7am. River was cheerful sitting on our laps while we ate breakfast outside on picnic tables. He happily played with the new toy Grandma and Grandpa had brought for him and seemed to be soaking in his surroundings. Next, we drove to a cookout in North Smithfield at Pop Pop and Nana’s house where River was to meet some important people. He very calmly accepted audience with all of his new family, playing with his toys on his blanket, but seeming to also be taking in each new face- his Great Aunt Mary and Great Uncle Dave, and his cousins Charlie, Pete, and Hillarie. Once it was time for his next nap, it was time to drive home.
At home, we had one final visit with Memere and Pepere. River had such fun playing with Memere on his play mat. Memere read him his favorite book, Puppy Love, which she and Pepere and picked out for him in Maine.
Bud and I were leery about this day so full of new people, places, and action. But River seemed happy to take all the new experiences in stride. Although he seemed calm and content throughout his exciting day, once bedtime came, he was asleep within five minutes of being laid into his crib. Clearly, he was ready for some rest, and his Mommy and Daddy were ready to celebrate what a great day they’d had.
